The best functional trainer on the market just got better looking!
Precor's S3.23 Functional Trainer is sporting a new color - the subtle, warm, color palette showcased on our home cardio machines.
The S3.23 features an award-winning design that moves the way the human body moves:
- Dual high/low pulley system with user-friendly adjustments to more than 30 different height positions for infinite workout options.
- Dual independent weight stacks to engage more than one muscle and often more than one joint for isolateral resistance training.
- High mass/low travel, 1:2 resistance ratio providing a smooth, positive feel and a long range of cable motion lessening the chances of the stack stopping abruptly against the end of its travel path.
- A compact footprint that makes the S3.23 easy to incorporate into your home.
- Instructional wall charts and included DVD to showcase a total-body exercise routine.
- Add-on options for even more workout variety with a six-position adjustable bench and an accessory kit that includes a straight bar, curl bar and additional foot/ankle strap.
The Advantages of Functional Training:
Most of the activities we do in life are performed across multiple planes of movement. Functional Training allows strength training to be more applicable to the everyday movements of the human body, and sports-specific training. In addition to building overall strength and a strong core, significant improvements in balance, stability and coordination are principle benefits of the unrestricted motion of functional training.
- Builds a strong core - functional training engages more than one muscle and often more than one joint for isolateral resistance training (upper and lower body).
- Improves balance, stability and coordination - functional training helps to teach your muscles to work together and work equally the way you use them in everyday life activities.
- Improves overall strength - functional training recruits stabilizers and core muscles to build true overall strength.
- Helps users of all sizes customize their workouts - resistance training with freedom of movement allows users of all sizes, the freedom to define their own motion path and find the movement that is comfortable for them.

How to start a program by Andrea Metcalf
Starting an exercise program can seem like a big task. The most important part is to include all three parts. A complete fitness program combines cardiovascular training, strength training and flexibility training. Missing any of the links will result in injury, lack of results or boredom.
Cardiovascular training provides the heart with many benefits. Lower blood pressure, cholesterol, resting and recovering heart rates and increased lung capacity are the results of a finely tuned cardio program. Cardiovascular exercise uses bigger muscles to increase the heart’s output in a rhythmic, continuous pace. The best cardiovascular exercise is the one that you like to do and can do conveniently. Having a treadmill in your home or belonging to a health club is only as good as you use them. Because creating a calorie deficit is essential to weight loss, exercising aerobically in your zone is critical to success. Using the Karvoneon heart rate formula, you can determine where your zone is. Then using a heart rate monitor or continually checking you pulse you will be able to exercise more efficiently. Strength training teaches the muscles tone as well as burn calories, increases bone density and improves daily movement tasks. In fact, strength training helps you lose weight while you sleep by increasing your metabolic rate. Form is crucial to any strength training program. Seeking the advice of a personal trainer is highly recommended for creating a time efficient, time saving, safe and fun workout. Performing one set of each strength exercise for the beginner exerciser will create similar results as multiple set programs. A trainer can help you determine what to do, how much and how often to lift. In general, if you can't maintain good form for at least eight repetitions while lifting a weight, it's too heavy; if you can perform more than 12, it's too light. Strength training is recommended at least two to three times per week. You should allow a rest day in between sessions to give your muscles time to repair and recover. Flexibility is the ability to move joints and muscles through their full range of motion, which increases blood circulation and allows the joints to move freely. As you become more flexible, you will find it easier to reach things on high shelves, to look under a bed, or perhaps to tie your shoes. Flexibility training should be performed in general after strength and cardiovascular training. When done properly, stretching can do more than just increase flexibility. According to M. Alter, benefits of stretching include enhanced fitness, ability to learn and perform skilled movements, increased mental and physical relaxation as well as body awareness, reduced risk of injury, muscle soreness and muscle tension as well as lubricating the joints to reduce arthritic pain.
Don't become a statistic
It is the time for resolutions and we don’t want any of our customers to become a statistic. People start working out like crazy for a week or two and burn out like a meteorite coming through the atmosphere. Getting results requires a lifestyle change and a commitment and you can’t do it in one workout. If you are getting this newsletter you probably have a piece of home exercise equipment. The good news is that allows you some flexibility in your program. The key is to build up slowly and minimize the soreness associated with starting a program. If it is a cardio machine you have at home don’t jump into a 45 minute program if you have not worked out in months or years. Start with 15 minutes twice a day and build up to 20 in week two and 25 in week three up to the full time allotment you were looking for. If you have questions after starting your program remember that we did not just sell you a piece of equipment. We are in this with you to help achieve your goals. Our fitness professionals in the stores can give you tips and we have a great network of trainers that are available to help you as well.
Another Happy Customer I wanted to let you know that this past Sunday, my wife and I purchased a new Precor elliptical machine at one of your stores. I would like to praise Manny for his honesty and dedication to ensuring that his customers get what they are seeking. Manny took the time to explain the benfits of the various machines and was in no way pushy or too sales-like. Honestly, the main reason we went with your company was not only that we were previous customers, but because of Manny and his sales style. He should be acknowledged for his great effort.
Thank you! Cory F. via email
